Southern Africa Federation of the Disabled (SAFOD)

The Southern Africa Federation of the Disabled (SAFOD) is a leading disability-focused network engaged in coordination of activities of organisations of PWDs in the ten Southern African countries of Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. In these countries, our focus is mainly to strengthen the capacity of our national affiliates so that they are able to effectively advocate for the rights of the PWDs in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).

SAFOD plays a leading role in creating an environment which promotes and protects human rights of the marginalized PWDs for their meaningful human development. In so doing, the organisation plays a very critical role to the overall development of the region.

But as the concern for people to do something to address human rights issues effecting Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) worldwide – including in Southern Africa region – has grown, the demands on SAFOD’s limited staff and resources have expanded considerably both at the Secretariat and in its entire regional membership.

As a result, the challenges faced by Persons with Disabilities – and by the Disability Peoples Organisation (DPOs) – continue to worsen day-by-day, almost commensurate with the deteriorating economic outlook of these countries due to many factors, including economic and political governance, climate change, and over-population, just to mention. The situation has also put a strain on the capacity of SAFOD to continue fulfilling its founding objectives as an organisation.

Yet, as a duly registered non-profit organisation, we continue to rely on the generosity of development partners, individual well-wishers, and private foundations to defend the human rights affecting Persons with Disabilities in Southern Africa, especially in countries where we operate. Your support will therefore go a long way in relieving this strain, thereby contributing to the success of our work.

Why Donate?

SAFOD wants to continue to implement our unique programs in the communities that focus on bringing about positive changes in the lives of PWDs.

We are a non-profit entity supported by community well-wishers, philanthropists, local and international foundations, international development partners and through other legitimate and transparent fundraising activities. This is why we are asking for YOUR HELP.

How will the donations be used?

Your donation, however small, will help to contribute towards the running costs of the Secretariat of SAFOD.

Your donation will go toward covering our rent and expenses such as internet and utilities.

Your donation will also help us to be able to continue implementing various interventions that impact on the masses in the ten countries where we operate, especially on the PWDs.

Every single contribution is critical to our projects.
